My process

THESIS STATEMENT

Practicing skincare is all about being attentive to your skin while developing healthy skin habits to ensure overall health. With the influence of pop culture, celebrity endorsements, and social media trends, the skincare industry has become misleading. I explored the topic of skincare from a beginner’s perspective in order to give individuals the opportunity to learn more about their unique skin. Skinfo is an interactive app that records skin data and helps users maintain their current skincare routine. The app is accompanied by a website highlighting the features of the app and how it works. In this way, individuals will not feel obligated to purchase products but to understand how their skin works. There is no such thing as perfect skin.

WHY SKINCARE?

Skincare has always been a hobby of mine and something I research quite often in my free time. This thesis provided an opportunity to expand upon my interest in the skincare field and create something I would have appreciated as a novice skincare follower.

CONSULTING WITH EXPERTS

I had the opportunity to consult with Maria Ferguson, a licensed aesthetician, on this project. It was a great experience learning from an expert in this field. Maria gave me feedback in regards to the lifestyle quiz, debunking many skincare myths, and taught me about including a wide range of age groups because anyone can be a beginner in skincare. The knowledge I gained from her guidance, evolved my project into a more reliable resource.
